Whether a rash has appeared out of nowhere or a seemingly innocent rash has become painful and challenging to deal with, it may be a smart plan to visit an urgent care clinic. Unlike your primary clinic, urgent care clinics accept walk-in appointments, and unlike the emergency room, you will not have to wait long in the waiting room! When you are worried about a rash or are having difficulty coping with symptoms, it can be quite unpleasant to wait for a doctor’s appointment or spend hours in the emergency room. If you want to avoid either scenario, our expert physicians can help at Northwest Ohio Urgent Care!
How can you tell if a rash is serious?
No matter how severe a rash is, it is always at least a little bit concerning to spot one on yourself! While some rashes are minor and do not require medical attention, others are accompanied by warning signs that it could be more severe and require medical intervention. Below are a few warning signs to watch out for if you spot a rash on your body:
- The rash has started to blister
- A fever has developed along with the rash
- The rash starts to spread suddenly, with or without bruise-like lesions
- The rash is abnormally painful
- Your whole body is covered with the rash
- Yellow or green, crusting, pain and warmth around the rash, or a red streak running away from the rash toward the heart—all signs
- of infection
- Purple spots on your hand or feet
- Circular-shaped rash—a sign of Lyme disease
- Rash that does not heal within a week or two
Should I go see a doctor about a rash?
If you are at all concerned about a rash you have, then you cannot do wrong by making an appointment to see a doctor! At the very least, your doctor will let you know that there is nothing to worry about. If any treatment is required, they can write a prescription, give you a treatment plan, or refer you to a dermatologist, if necessary. Moreover, a seemingly benign rash may be indicative of a more severe skin condition. As such, it is better to be safe than sorry, as the saying goes! Any of our board-certified doctors at Northwest Ohio Urgent Care would be happy to evaluate your rash and provide any necessary diagnosis or treatment for you!
Will a rash go away on its own?
Depending on the type and severity of your rash, it may go away on its own after a certain amount of time. Many rashes will eventually resolve themselves, but it can be tricky to know if yours will or if it requires medical attention. As such, it is best to see a doctor who can let you know if your rash requires treatment or will go away on its own.
